Ghostlight 2.1

Lights up, Clyde and Leo are enjoying lunch.

Clyde: And then I said, I said, "Look here, I don't care what the blocking is, if there isn't any coffee, your tiptoeing trees are going to be sleeping shrubs."

Leo: Sleeping shrubs, that's great. What did he say?

Clyde: Well then he said, "If we end up with sleeping shrubs, you all are going to be unemployed unitarians."

Leo: What?

Clyde: He couldn't think of a good alliteration to go with "unemployed".

(Both laugh. Alicia enters)

Leo: Hidey-ho Alicia Jo!

Alicia: Hey guys. Have you seen Natalie?

Clyde: Not since I last saw her.

Alicia: Ooookay...

(Alicia starts to exit)

Leo: Oh, come on, Alicia Jo, have a sit-down with us.

Clyde: Yeah, whatever you're after can wait.  We've got all the time in the world.

Leo: And then some!

(Alicia sits next to them)

Alicia: That's not my name, you know. (Leo looks at her, confused) "Alicia Jo". That's not my name. It's just Alicia.

Leo: Oh, hmm. Don't know where I got that from.

(awkward pause)

Alicia: Why are you eating?

Clyde: It's lunch time.

Alicia: (beat) You're dead.

Clyde: I'M WHAT??

Leo: HE'S WHAT?? OH GOD WHY, WHAT COULD I HAVE DONE TO SAAAAAVE HIM?

Clyde: I HAD SO MUCH TO LIVE FOR-

Leo: WHAT A WORLD, WHAT A WORLD!

Clyde: I never went to Disneyland!

Leo: Clyde, I'm sorry, I'M SO SOOOOORRYYYYY

(Alicia starts to exit again)

Leo: (laughing) Come back, come back!

Clyde: (laughing) Come on, sit down.

(Alicia reluctantly sits)

Clyde: What was the question?

Leo: (taking a bite) Why are you eating?

Clyde: Oh yeah! Why am I eating? (he considers this) Well, why wouldn't I be eating?

Alicia: (talking to a child) There's no reason for you to eat.

Clyde: Just because it doesn't convert into energy or make me gain 3 pounds doesn't mean I can't enjoy it. Why does it need a purpose? It is. And it is... delicious.

Alicia: But this is useless. You don't have a stomach. Why take the time to make a sandwich, put it in a bag, carry it around, and sit down to eat?

(Leo and Clyde are suddenly very serious, interested, thoughtful.)

Leo: Are you really concerned that we're wasting time? I mean, you're actually bothered by this?

Alicia: Yes, I am.

Clyde: Wasting time. Wow. I haven't thought about that in...

Leo: A lifetime.

Clyde: A lifetime, yeah. Alicia, we have all the time we could ever need. It's not going to run out.

Leo: We are, and we will be. We will continue.

Clyde: And we will continue... (both raise their sandwiches in tandem) to eat sandwiches.

(Alicia rolls her eyes)

Leo: Unemployed Unitarians.

(Both laugh and continue their meal)
